Temporary fences are used when a regular fence will take too long to build, costs too much or is unsuitable for the location or purpose of the fence.
There are several different types of fences: security, high visibility, crowd control and safety fences, though in some cases the same type of fencing may be used for different purposes.
Some examples of the uses of temporary fences are:
At concerts as a crowd barrier to keep the audience from jumping onto the stage
To protect high value objects and people inside the perimeter such as at construction sites (sometimes called construction hoarding) or at conferences
Keeping people out of unauthorized areas
To provide partial protection of the environment from acts such as littering, unintentional human destruction of an ecosystem and limiting human access to areas inhabited by endangered species.
For use on farms to corral animals and mark property lines
Security fences are sturdy, usually made of high-density plastic, PVC, or steel, which keeps unwanted visitors out. they can be used at, but are not limited to, conferences such as the G20 Summit to protect delegates, on military bases to keep out unauthorized access, and to limit the movement of protesters in a demonstration.
High visibility fences are used anywhere that a barrier needs to be seen for safety reasons such as on ski slopes to mark out-of-bounds areas, or at events to keep people from wandering around where they are not supposed to be. High visibility fences are made of high density plastic or wire mesh and are brightly coloured to attract attention, the most common colour being bright orange. Plastic high visibility fences come in rolls that are attached to metal rods which are stuck into the ground or supported with sandbags. As such, they are not very strong and act more as a marker than a physical barrier.
Crowd control fences are used to manage groups of people at large events such as sports games, concerts, parades, demonstrations and festivals. They are nicknamed ‘bike racks’ in the United States as their design resembles a bike rack, and sometime are actually used as such. They are usually made of steel and can interlock to provide added strength. They are also galvanized to prevent rust from forming so they can be used outdoors in all weather.
Safety fences are generally used at construction sites on the tops of developing buildings to ensure that workers do not accidentally fall. They are generally 3.5 feet high and made of galvanized steel which is anchored to a concrete floor with clamps or bolted directly to the floor. They are easy to assemble and disassemble and provide good protection against accidental plummets.
Prices for temporary fence rentals vary by region, however they can be rented by the day, week, and month with rates adjusted accordingly. Many companies offer free quotes by telephone as well as online, and accept a broad range of payment options from credit cards to money orders.
When considering which fence rental company to go with, make sure they have a good field team to provide setup and take down- ideally 24 hour service; a large inventory to ensure they have all the equipment necessary for your needs; a history of past projects similar to yours; and specific, positive client testimonials.
